Are we alone?
A commentary exploring the possibility of extraterrestrial life

Are we alone? In such a vast universe of unknowns, how can we tell with any degree of certainty? Some believe that we have been visited by beings from places far away. Others think that we have not only been visited, but that we are still visited regularly. Evidence has been produced to substantiate these beliefs.
Theories range from alien spacecraft harmlessly flying around the earth to the abduction of humans for experimentation or even to use us to produce their young. There have been drawings in caves that indicate the ancient people watched the skies for these flying objects. Some theorize that the pyramids of the Egyptians and Aztecs may have been the architectural engineering of these visitors from space. Others believe that the drawings on the dessert floor of California must have been drawn for extraterrestrial beings since no humans had the capability to fly and these drawings must be seen from the sky. Perhaps they are the handy work of the aliens themselves. Yet more believe that off the East Coast of the United States, the remains of a road leading to the lost colony of Atlantis has been discovered. Atlantis has long been considered the original focal point of the aliens. Could this have been a colony of extraterrestrial beings?
In England, crop circles began to appear in the 1970's without explanation. Circles began to become more elaborate designs. Some have claimed to be the creators of these wonderful hoaxes that have baffled the experts, but have been unable to duplicate the designs with the same precision as the aliens. One must also wonder why the hoax would continue, after the confession.
Photographs, home movies, and video tapes have been produced capturing startling images of unidentified flying options (UFO) moving around our world. Some of these from credible camera crews and photographers. Although most of these images are explicable as aircraft, however, some remain ominously unexplained.
When we think seriously about UFO's, we almost automatically think about the governmental cover-up surrounding the 1947 incident near Roswell, New Mexico. Witnesses say that a flying saucer crashed in the dessert that day. The U.S. military themselves said this in a press release, the following day. If not a cover-up, why would their story change one day later, when we were told that it was really just a weather balloon. And what are we to believe of the eyewitness reports of alien bodies being removed from the dessert, only to be told officially that they were crash dummies being used for tests and experiments involving balloons.
And what of that film footage that escaped from the top secret airbase near Roswell, that depicts an autopsy being conducted on an alien corpse? The government of course denies any knowledge of such film footage, yet we are subjected to its disturbing contents on television. Is this really an alien body being analyzed following the crash. Experts tell us that such a film would have been impossible to create with such gory detail with the technology existing in 1947.
The possibility of life elsewhere can be substantiated by the simple bacterial fossils found in the rock that made its way from Mars to our own Earth. The recently discovered martian rock gives up a glimpse into the ancient history of the red planet. Could our closest neighboring planet have at one time housed such simple forms of life? How much more difficult is it to believe that a superior intelligence could exist farther away?
Many people believe that they have been abducted by aliens. These people bring back tales of terror and utter helplessness as they were taken away and experimented upon. Some remember the horrible experience while others just find themselves missing minutes or hours of their time, unable to recall how they got where they were. Experts tell us that an estimated 800,000 humans have been abducted by aliens.
I believe that most of the answers to the question, "Are we alone?" can be deduced by using a little simple logic. If broken down into elementary logical points, perhaps we can further understand the possibilities that such intelligent aliens could be visiting us, or why they might want to do so.
Why would they come here? Well, likely for exploration, and perhaps upon finding "intelligent" life, communication. Ufologist (yes, this is a field of science) tell us that communication is the most likely reason for the ancient dessert drawings of California. But why would the be so big, and only visible from the air. We are told that it is likely that humans were trying to communicate with the aliens. That explains that. Remember, they are the superior intelligence so we must expect such stupidity from humans.
The idea that the pyramids were designed or built by aliens is ludicrous. If they were to either design or build such structures, why did they do it from stone? They travel here in these elaborate spacecraft, and build pyramids out of stone? The idea that Stonehendge may have been a guidance mechanism or calendar is even more ridiculous. They travel for light years in these spacecraft, then use rocks to tell them where they are or what day it is?
If Atlantis was a colony of extraterrestrial beings, why did they only have one colony? And why didn't these super smart aliens think about seismology? They can travel all of this way then they put all of their people on a small spot of Earth that later fell into the ocean, and they didn't know?
Photographs and such are easy enough to fake. Most of them have been proven to be hoaxes, but what about the few that haven't been explained? For that answer, let's look at ourselves. If the government was to tell us they are some secret new flying device, wouldn't our enemies know about it too? That is some of it, but mostly, we are willing to believe in anything so if the sun reflects off of a bunch or wayward weather balloons, most of us would not believe them anyway. The same applies to the Roswell, N.M. incident. Because we suspect there is something fishy going on there, the government could tell us the whole truth, and we wouldn't believe them.
The alien autopsy film has already been determined to be a clever hoax. After this film has been viewed on national television for nearly ten years, some yahoo found the most interesting element of the content to be the telephone on the wall behind the scientist. The film was supposedly shot in 1947, but the manufacturer of the phone did not develop that particular model until sometime in the early 1970's. Did we really have to someone tell us something like this to make us realize that the alien was not real?
Back to communication. The "expert" ufologists believe that the most likely reason for the crop circles is to communicate with us. If we wanted to talk to them, would we draw pictures for them and leave? Well, we probably would, but they are the smart ones. Why not just land, or beam down, and say "Take me to your leader"? We would be able to figure out that they are not from around here pretty quickly, and even the dumbest of humans would probably get the local authorities involved.
Yet, it is the crop circles that concern me the most. I am utterly frightened at the idea that somewhere out beyond our galaxy, a congress of these super intelligent beings has met. They discussed whether they should spend 16 jillion zargots to send a spacecraft light years away, billions and billions of miles, to draw pictures in our corn. What scares me is that they apparently voted to do so. Remember, they are the smart ones. This sounds a lot like the U.S. government.
Maybe these aliens are really Americans in disguise. Think about this; what other government would agree to spend the money to send spacecraft on a daily basis to worlds far away, rather than setting up a colony (Atlantis doesn't count) somewhere on, or near the world they were visiting so often. I wonder what the tax rate is on their planet. It is possible that they just have a lot of time on their claws.
Alien abductions are absurd. The explanation of lost time is simple. We tend to daydream. Countless hours of time is lost every day due to this phenomenon. People simply don't pay attention. Others just have a wild imagination. Why would such a highly intelligent species need 800,000 of us to conduct their experiments. At least they are not using laboratory animals. We would have to put a stop to that.
Last, I would like to address that martian rock. The experts have determined that this rock contains fossils of prehistoric martian bacteria. Let us remember where the rock was found. I think is was in Oregon, Montana, or Canada. It was somewhere in North America. Wherever it was, this rock is just laying there on the ground and someone picked it up and decided it came from Mars. Has anyone bothered to wonder how the rock got here? Mars is rotating, meaning there is at least some degree of gravity on it. Did Mars spin so fast that it hurled rocks into space? If so, why didn't it burn up in the process of landing on Earth, or make a big crater like the meteorite that killed the dinosaurs? Don't even try to tell me that it landed here long before the Earth had an atmosphere. If that was the case, why just one little rock?
Answer to the original question: Yes, we are alone.
